Maple Syrup, Walnut and Buttermilk Wholemeal Scones

Ingredients

  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 50g rolled oats
  • 75g wholemeal flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 50g unsalted butter, softened
  • 50g walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 75ml maple syrup (or golden syrup)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. Line flat baking tray with non-stick baking paper
  3. Put the dry ingredients and butter in a large bowl. Rub butter into the flour.
  4. Add the walnuts.
  5. Make a well in the centre. Add the buttermilk and syrup and mix well to make a dough.
  6. Gently press or roll out dough until 3cm thick.
  7. Cut with cutter or glass into rounds and place scones 1cm apart on prepared tray.
  8. Bake for 12 minutes or until light golden and hollow when tapped on top. Cool on a wire rack.
