Ingredients
- approx 1kg steak (for vegetarian version use lentils/soup mix/barley and mushrooms)
- 1 onion
- 2 potatoes
- pumpkin equal to potatoes in amount
- sweet potato equal to potatoes in amount
- 1 carrot
- 1 parsnip
- 1-2 tomatoes
- water
- salt
- tomato sauce
- tablespoon vinegar
- 3 shakes Worcestershire sauce
- plain flour
- cornflour, 2-3 tbsp
Method
- Cut meat into squares after removing fat
- Roll in plain flour
- Put in saucepan with chopped-up vegies
- Add water to cover vegies
- Add salt
- Add slurp tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce
- Bring to boil
- Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally
- Stir initially to prevent floured meat from sticking
- Make pastry
- Mix cornflour with some broth to make a paste. Dissolve in stew.
- Place in ovenproof dish and spread pastry across top
- Put a few holes in pastry to let air out
- Cook in oven until pastry is cooked
