Ingredients
- 150g self-raising flour
- 50g rolled oats
- 75g wholemeal flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 50g unsalted butter, softened
- 50g walnuts, roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 75ml maple syrup (or golden syrup)
Method
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Line flat baking tray with non-stick baking paper
- Put the dry ingredients and butter in a large bowl. Rub butter into the flour.
- Add the walnuts.
- Make a well in the centre. Add the buttermilk and syrup and mix well to make a dough.
- Gently press or roll out dough until 3cm thick.
- Cut with cutter or glass into rounds and place scones 1cm apart on prepared tray.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until light golden and hollow when tapped on top. Cool on a wire rack.
